How the personalization works

The memorial portrait is engraved inside the crystal, not on its surface. After you upload a photo at checkout, our design team reviews it — older photos, scans of prints, and lower-resolution phone shots are common with memorial orders, and our retouchers often enhance them significantly before engraving. Our artists then convert the prepared image into a 3D engraving model. The 4K laser fires microscopic refractive points at exact depths inside the K9 glass, forming the portrait with lifelike volume. Pair with the Memory Light Base for a soft, illuminated tribute display.

What photo works best

A clear portrait in good natural light produces the sharpest engraving, but for memorial orders the choice is often emotional rather than technical. We work with what you have. Older film photographs scanned at any reasonable resolution, prints photographed with a phone, and group photos cropped to a single face all work. Vertical orientation suits the rectangle shape best. If you only have one photo and it isn't perfect, send it — our team will tell you what's possible before production starts.

The crystal is nested in custom-cut foam. With a Memory Light Base added, both ship in the same box with the USB-C power cable. Crystal care

K9 optical crystal is scratch-resistant and water-safe, designed to last generations. Wipe with the included microfiber cloth — a quick buff removes fingerprints. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight. Dust occasionally with the same microfiber. Deeper cleaning with a drop of dish soap in warm water will not damage the engraving. The crystal suits any indoor surface — a mantel, a bedside table, a memorial corner, or a shelf with the things that matter.

Standard production is 5-7 business days from photo approval. Express (1-2 business days) is available at checkout for memorial services and funerals. Orders before 9 AM PST ship next business day. U.S. shipping 3-5 business days via UPS, USPS, or FedEx. International via UPS (Canada) and USPS (other countries). Add a service date in Special Instructions and our team confirms timing before production. We treat memorial timelines with priority.

Frequently asked questions

Can you work with an old photograph? Yes. We've retouched film scans from the 1950s, school portraits from the 1980s, and Polaroids photographed with a phone. Send what you've got — we'll email you before production if it can't be made workable.

Can I include dates — born and passed? Yes. Add the name, dates, or short message in Special Instructions at checkout — no extra charge. Common format: name above the photo, dates below.

What size is right? Small or Medium for personal display. Large, XL, or Max for a mantel or shared family display. Multi-face engravings are sharpest in Medium and up.

Is the crystal appropriate as a gift? Yes — memorial 3D crystals are one of our largest gift categories. The premium navy gift box makes it appropriate for direct gifting to a grieving spouse, parent, or child.

Standard vs 4K HD engraving? 4K HD adds finer facial detail, smoother gradients, sharper eyes — most noticeable up close or with a light base. For a keepsake meant to last generations, 4K HD is worth it.
